In a bold move to ensure public safety, officials in Griffin have issued a strong warning to residents: refrain from consuming tap water due to potential contamination risks. This precautionary step has been labeled as a "Do Not Consume Water Advisory" and is currently being taken seriously by local authorities.
Located in Griffin, Georgia, city officials recently alerted the community about an incident involving a fuel spill that originated near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Unfortunately, this spill has reportedly made its way into the Flint River, raising serious concerns about the quality of the water supply.
City leaders emphasized that even though initial assessments suggested the spill had not affected the water intake points in Griffin, they decided to act swiftly by shutting down all Flint River intake operations. They are now sourcing water exclusively from the Dr. Brant D. Keller Reservoir located in Pike County, which, fortunately, remains unaffected by the contamination issues.
To further safeguard the water supply, the Harry Simmons Water Treatment Plant has also been temporarily shut down.
